Near my home is a bluff studded with oak trees. The bluff, which faces south across Lompoc Valley and a dry river bed, is Federal land, well fenced off and isolated. This bluff has always peaked my curiosity as I can sense a lot of energy from it even from a distance.
Well, the other day while deep in thought I happened to wander through a somewhat open gate and found myself on this bluff (big innocent smile).
I gazed across the valley and town from where I stood in the shadow of the oak trees…

At the end of a cul-de-sac here in Lompoc, California is the original site of the Spanish mission La Purisima de la Concepcion de Maria Santissima (I hope I got the full name right). The mission was built at the very base of rolling hills overlooking the valley.
Well, in 1812, while the U.S and England had each other by the throat in a pointless war, a massive earthquake struck this region. The mission was destroyed. It was later rebuilt 5 miles east of town, where it stands today. All that is…

On the oldest street in my town, where the town first sprang to life, are two rows of enormous Stone Pine trees. These trees are worth millions of dollars and have been described in guidebooks as "the most beautiful stand of Stone Pine outside of Italy". Yes, we here in Lompoc are proud of our Stone Pines.
Unfortunately, the trees, being old, are beginning to show signs of mortality. We lost three of the trees to tree rot in the last six months. They have since been replaced by new Stone Pines,…

I decided to use an excellent suggestion from Anamere ( thank you) by listing the pros and cons of whether I should go to Ecuador or stay home and keep plugging at work. I decided to write my list here so objective eyes can see it.
Why I should risk the little money I have by going to Ecuador to work for a short time on an organic farm:
1. To broaden my horizons
2. To experience the rain forest before it disappears
3. To learn organic farming methods.
4. To climb a volcano! To be awakened by h…

This isn't an essay or one of my anecdotes, but a scream for help. Decision-making has never come easily for me because I have learned not to trust my unpredictable epileptic brain. So I come here humbly seeking advice.
The problem: The economy has not treated me kindly. It is growing harder to find freelance writing work because of the mounting competition. In other words, I'm nearly broke.
Now, I have an opportunity to go to Ecuador for a month and a half to live and work on an educational g…

Emma, my Diamond Dove, surprised me the other day by landing on my left knee. She sat on my knee several minutes while I worked on my computer and then flew back to her cage. Okay. Fine. I put it out of my head.
The next day I rode my bicycle ten miles out to the beach, something I have done plenty of times before. But when I returned home my left knee ached. I chalked it up to age. I decided to give it reiki later when I had time. I turned on the computer and settled down to write.
Emma flew…

A friend of mine sent this story to me.
The Heart
"Tomorrow morning," the surgeon began, "I'll open up your heart...."
"You'll find Jesus there," the boy interrupted.
The surgeon looked up, annoyed "I'll cut your heart open," he continued, "to see how much damage has been done..."
"But when you open up my heart, you'll find Jesus in there," said the boy.
The surgeon looked to the parents, who sat quietly. "When I see how much damage has been done, I'll sew your heart and chest back up, a…

I have been busy writing despite my current jobless and financially-strapped existence. I am creating an ebook for the average Joe and Jane who is interested in using healing crystals and minerals in every day life, but is afraid of being labeled a "New Age nutcase". The ebook discusses practical down to earth ways to use crystals and minerals, as well as explains what crystal energy is and how it affects us in simple non-mystical language.
I hope to nail a few planks onto the bridge of communi…

The other day I found a praying mantis laying on its side on the pavement. It moved its legs weakly as the dogs trampled over it. I carefully cupped the insect in my palm. I sensed it was dying so I began to send it reiki to help it on its way.
I sensed a calming peace steal over the praying mantis, and suddenly the world shrank to become the insect in my tingling palm.
The mantis turned its head toward me. Its great eyes glowed with a golden inner light. A spark of joy flitted through me and…

The Rosemary is a kind of totem plant for me, if there is such a thing. I love its scent, I love to grow it, and I love how it tastes. I especially love the healing energy of a living rosemary plant. Its energy cleans any negative energy from me as easily as a shower.
I try to use the healing energy of rosemary, as well as other types of plants, with Reiki as much as possible. I recently used rosemary in a healing session with my sister’s mastiff/boxer cross Odin.
Odin is a big dummy with an a…

A long hot day of painting has finally ended. The house reeks of paint fumes and a nearby dairy. The windows have to stay open so no one passes out from the paint fumes. I look like a Bedouin with my sweat-stained t-shirt wrapped around my head and across the lower half of my face. Yes, it smells that bad. I think my nose hairs have burned away.
From my chair, I can see a stand of sunflowers in a neighboring yard. The neighbors ignore the sunny yellow flowers weaving back and forth in the hot w…

I am currently in my sister's house for a visit. I was astonished to find she has a small Elephant Foot plant on the downstairs coffee table. My sister does not keep plants unless said plant is made from silk. But the plant downstairs is very much alive. At least for now.
While waiting for my tea water to boil, I summoned up some Reiki energy and placed my hands on the plant's pot. Mentally I traveled through the clay pot into the soil, and then hit a figurative wall. The plant was completely u…

I recently followed the sound of my sister's screams to her bathroom. She stood on the sink counter while pointing wildly at the floor. The reason for her hysteria was a daddy-long-legs spider slowly making its way across the tile.
"Kill it! Kill it!" she shrieked. How she managed to scream and breathe at the same time I will never understand.
I cupped my hands around the spider. I began working Reiki energy. The frightened spider relaxed. It didn't try to bite. Instead it began to spin a web…

The following story happened years ago before I became attuned to Reiki. The experience made me face my abilities head on for the first time. I thought I would share it. I wrote it using creative non-fiction to make it more entertaining.
Twilight deepened the sky over the valley to violet as I walked down a favorite trail toward home. The scent of earth, grass, and sea water filled the cooling air. I stepped carefully along the rough path as my eagle eye vision dimmed in the low light.
"This i…
