Afganistan: A peacenixs thoughts

I know there is contention within us on our involvement in Afghanistan. I know most of us feel it's far to away to feel good about it, but please hear me out.

I feel since we started it, we need to finish. How and why, though...... War, in my mind, should be the last resort of a civilized nation. And wars are not won or lost on the battlefield, and Vietnam showed us. War is only part of the political process, and more can be achieved from giving the people a government they can trust than wholesale killing. I don't know it that is even possible in Afghanistan, but we owe it to ourselves to try.

I myself meditate on peace; on finding common ground and on the proper use of conflict. Killing others for reasons that are not just is not a way to practice life. Conflict is meant to teach us, to stretch us. To open us to new ways of thinking and growing. Not to send us to the end of the line to come back and try again to get it right.
